Create Glowing Balloon Centerpieces To Use During A Murder Mystery Dinner Party

Mike Mckinney

If you are hosting a murder mystery dinner party, help set the tone by creating glowing balloon centerpieces following the steps below. The decorations will help illuminate the dining area and provide an element of uncertainty, which may help the guests remain focused and feel intrigued as they watch the presentation unfold in front of their eyes.

  • clay flower pots
  • newspaper
  • spray paint (neon colors)
  • glitter
  • stencils
  • tape
  • thin paintbrush
  • luminescent paint
  • hand pump
  • iridescent latex balloons
  • glowing light sticks
  • two-sided tape

Prepare A Base For Each Balloon

Place clay pots on a sturdy surface that is covered with newspaper. Spray each pot with an even coat of spray paint that is a bright, neon color. Sprinkle glitter onto the wet paint to provide each pot's surface with a shimmery appearance. Wait for the paint to dry. Use strips of tape to secure stencils to the exterior of each clay pot.

Consider adding stencils that spell out the word 'mystery' or ones that depict a magnifying glass or a question mark. Use a thin paintbrush to fill in each stencil with luminescent paint. Wait for the paint to dry before removing the stencils.

Fill Balloons And Add Glowing Light Sticks

Activate enough glowing light sticks for the amount of centerpieces that you are preparing. Inflate the first iridescent balloon with a hand pump. Once it is filled, stretch its neck and push a light stick through it before forming a knot in the neck. Fill the remaining balloons in the same manner.

Secure long strips of two-sided tape across the interior rim of each flower pot. Set a balloon in each pot, making sure that the bottoms of all of them are facing downwards so that they will be concealed inside of the pots. Press the balloons down gently until they are all secure.

Place The Centerpieces On Tables

Place the centerpieces in the middle of each table that guests will be eating at. If long tables are going to be used, add a few centerpieces to them, spacing them out evenly. During the murder mystery dinner, turn off any bright lights in the room. The glowing lights that are emitted from each centerpiece will create an eerie effect and guests will become thoroughly engrossed in the presentation that they are watching. The light sticks will last for several hours, making it possible for the centerpieces to be used throughout the event.
